Tras un fallo de la Corte Constitucional, el SRI debe aplicar desde 2024 un impuesto progresivo a los negocios con ventas de hasta USD 20.000 al a\u00f1o. El impuesto sobre las ventas de los negocios populares ser\u00e1 progresivo y comenzar\u00e1 a ser cobrado a partir de 2024, seg\u00fan el Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI)<\/a>. Como negocios populares se entienden las tiendas de barrio, las de abarrotes, las peluquer\u00edas, las ferreter\u00edas, los bazares y las papeler\u00edas, entre otros establecimientos con ventas de hasta USD 20.000 al a\u00f1o.<\/span><\/p>

Cuando el SRI empiece a cobrar el impuesto progresivo, los negocios dejar\u00e1n de pagar el actual impuesto \u00fanico de USD 60 anual. El director del SRI, Francisco Briones, explica que el actual esquema de USD 60 \u201ccontraviene los principios tributarios de progresividad\u201c, seg\u00fan una sentencia de la Corte Constitucional. La sentencia alega que, por ejemplo, una tienda con ventas de USD 2.000 al a\u00f1o paga un impuesto igual que un establecimiento similar con ingresos de USD 20.000 anuales. En Ecuador, hay 1,2 millones de contribuyentes catalogados como negocios populares. Este r\u00e9gimen entr\u00f3 en vigencia con la Ley de Desarrollo Econ\u00f3mico, en diciembre de 2021.<\/span><\/p>

Los negocios populares no incluyen a los contribuyentes que prestan servicios profesionales.<\/span><\/p>
